45 people killed in April, Chicago police

The Chicago Police Department released the report of crime statistic of April on Monday, with 45 people killed in shootings.

6 Days Of Chicago Without Shootings

The department said that crime stats for the year-to-date are down, but the numbers for April are different.

Last month 45 people were killed in the shootings, which is nine more than in April last year.

There were total 247 separate shootings, six less than last year’s tally of 253. The department said that there were 308 people were shot last month, which is slightly down from the same period last year when 311 were shot.

The Department’s data on year-to-date, the police said that the shootings were down to 13% and there are 9%  fewer shooting victims.

The Department said that it is using its new crime tip submission site, CPDTip.com, to partner with the community in preventing crime, not just act as an enforcer. But some are skeptical of the new top as they are concerned about keeping anonymity.

"No, it is totally anonymous. You know, we will only contact you if you want that, if you put that information in there. Once you text us something, that's all we get and we operate off of the information that you provide for us," Superintendent Eddie Johnson said.

He said that the CPD has made a gun arrest because of that tip line. That gives hope that things are moving in the right direction.

On his health, Johnson said he is doing well and there are a few potential kidney donors, including his son.
