CM Punk chants need to end in Chicago

The World’s biggest wrestling show WWE and the city of Chicago is in an unconditional partnership that thrives on energetic audience and iconic moments inside venues like Allstate Arena.

But, many people in the city are still siding with hometown favorite, and current UFC fighter CM Punk. Several chants of “CM Punk” have made for several moments over the past years during the show that derail WWE programming in an otherwise lively setting.

In 2015, it came into light that WWE assign letter grades to each city it tours, by using the formula:

I.A: 70 examples (minimum: 3,500; maximum 15,913) - average: 9,235

II.B+: 32 examples (minimum: 3,122; maximum 14,481) - average: 7,608

III.B: 48 examples (minimum: 2,626; maximum 12,717) - average: 6,496

IV.C: 61 examples (minimum: 2,230; maximum 6,996) - average 4,546

Overall Average: 7,002

Along with fellow metropolitan cities such as Los Angeles and New York, Chicago received an “A”

Chicago city hosted WWE WrestleMania the last time it was held in the arena, which is a staple of WWE’s successful live event business.

Live events brought in an operating income of almost $42 million last year, which is the second-highest segment in the regard. WWE makes it a point to broadcast several events in the second city each year.

In 2016, WWE Raw was aired twice from Chicago, the third biggest television market in America, in addition to the Payback pay-per-view on the WWE Network.

Two episodes of Raw averaged 3.21 million viewers, with the March 7th edition averaging 3.55 million compared to a holiday episode drawing 2.86 million.

This week’s Raw from Chicago fell right into the 2016 average with 3.216 million viewers. Even during non television appearance, Brock Lesnar was booked for a rare show appearance in Chicago for a match against Randy Orton in a SummerSlam rematch in which Orton was defeated. The event was covered on the WWE Website.
