Gunman shot fatally by Chicago Police, Westside Chicago

A man who was suspected of shooting a pregnant woman during a domestic disturbance had been shot fatally by a Chicago Police officer on Sunday night in the West Garfield Park neighborhood according to the police.

Officers responded around 11:30PM to a call of the domestic battery in the 4600 block of West Adams, according to a statement from police.

A 24 years old pregnant woman had been found to have been shot in the abdomen and was rushed to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

The suspect had left the scene, but then ran into officers in the first block of North Kenton, where he fired a handgun at the officers before running away. The officers immediately chased the suspect and a perimeter of the area had been established.

The suspect was spotted again in a gangway in the 4500 block of West Washington, where he shot again at the officers. The officers then returned fire, striking him.

Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told that the man, whose exact age was not known, had been taken taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not provide information immediately on the fatality.

One officer was taken to the hospital with an injury “consistent with a graze wound from a bullet,” Chicago Police Deputy Chief Al Nagode told reporters at the scene. Fire officials said that officer was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening. Nagode added that another officer was also taken to the hospital, but additional details were not released.
